Heart of Texas Greyhounds, Inc.
Unfortunately, the decision has been made by the Board to officially close H.O.T. at the end of the 2016 year. That will mark the end of H.O.T.'s 17th year in operation doing Greyhound adoptions and lending support to H.O.T.'s adopters and the Greyhound public in general. Out of the three San Antonio groups, we are proud of the fact that H.O.T. lasted the longest and gave the absolute best service to the Greyhound community. Scott and I thank you so much for the love and support you have shown us in the past and continue to do so.
This decision was not made without much thought and prayer. But sometimes, life gets in the way and other priorities come up. My parents and their care precipated H.O.T. "slow down". But towards the end of 2016, my aunt will be coming to live with us. My aunt and Godmother currently lives in Delaware and recently lost her husband. She has no other relatives who are able or willing to assist her in her golden years. Additionally, my father is not doing well and more time is being spent with his continuing care.
That being said, we will still be available to assistance with any Greyhound adopted out through H.O.T. over the years and their families. We will continue to be involved with Greyhounds but through other means than operating an adoption group which is very time consuming. We still have a houseful of Greyhounds: Blue Boy, Foster, Gigi. Gracie, Grant, Hailey, Macaroni, Mia, Percie, and Olivia. Little Girl will be coming back next week. Scott and I foresee never being Greyhound-less!
There are still some outstanding bills which we are working on getting paid up before year's end. Much of H.O.T.'s physical assets have been given to other non-profit groups. But please keep H.O.T. in mind if you want to make an early "end of year" donation. Your assistance will help us clear the slate and H.O.T. will close with the outstanding reputation it has been known for the past 17 years. All monetary gifts are tax deductible.
Thanks to all the volunteers who gave of their hearts and time to keep H.O.T. #1 in the Greyhound adoption world. H.O.T. is leaving with a reputation of excellence, which is all one can ask for. Please keep in touch and Scott and I will see you at the monthly H.O.T. Luncheons as well as any time your Greyhound needs boarding.
With much love and Greyhound hugs - Cheryl
REHOMING A GREYHOUND
I didn't really want you, I wasn't really sure
And I'll admit I had my doubts when you came through that door
Not small, or cute, or fluffy, with big soft puppy eyes,
But tall and thin and bony, with bald pink bulging thighs.
You weren't the kind I had in mind, not in any way.
Perhaps it would be better, if I took you back today
Before we know each other, it really won't be kind,
To keep you here for one more day and then to change my mind.
But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay and quickly I discovered, you were kind in every way.
Your gentleness and patience really stole the show
"Why! These dogs are wonderful, I must let others know"
You're my gentle giant, who just needed a chance,
To show us all what you could be, to wipe away that history.
Dispel our preconceptions, that put us all to shame
and so we come to know and love, what lies beneath that frame.
And now I've come to understand, what I missed at the start,
That Greyhounds need that great deep chest.....
To house their great big hearts.
If you are looking for that special Greyhound friend to add to your current Greyhound family, we urge you to contact one of the TGA approved Texas Greyhound adoption groups.
